The next NDIS minister will have a massive job on their hands

Whenever I’ve been out and about in recent times, there’s only one thing anyone wants to discuss with me: the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

People with disability want to know if it’ll remain in place.

Parents want to know how their kids can access it.

Non-disabled people want to know whether it’s being run effectively and how much it’s costing.

The future of the scheme was thrown into focus again yesterday, when NDIS Minister Bill Shorten announced he’d be leaving parliament in February.

With an election on the horizon and having just shepherded through parliament contentious reforms that curb spending on the scheme, there are obvious questions about timing.
