Benefiting from your NDIS plan: Tips for success

As a participant, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides you with an opportunity to make critical decisions to ensure that you maximise your approved budget and benefits under the scheme.

Each NDIS plan is structured differently and aligned to different categories to pay for services. To ensure your budget is best optimised to you, it is important to align the services with your specific needs. The NDIS has a list of “reasonable and necessary” activates to utilise your NDIS-approved budget.

How can I maximise my NDIS plan?

There are a number of key steps to take to maximise your NDIS plan, including:

  • Understand your plan and how to manage it: self-manage; plan managed; or, NDIA managed
  • Understand how the NDIS budget is utilised within three major funding categories: core supports; capacity-building supports; and, capital supports
  • Prioritise your specific needs and goals
  • Research qualified service providers
  • Value your independence and inclusivity
  • Implement an effective planning strategy that takes into account your budget, location, needs and qualified service providers who match your situation
