NDIS ‘no longer viewed just as charity’: Bill Shorten
NDIS Minister Bill Shorten has backed the National Disability Insurance Scheme, saying the “benefit to the economy is profound”.
This comes amid criticism from former Productivity Commission boss Gary Banks, who believes the government overestimated the value of the NDIS to the economy.
Mr Shorten told Sky News Australia there are “hundreds of thousands of people whose lives are being changed for the better by the NDIS”.
With 400,000 people working in the sector, Mr Shorten claimed the NDIS is now “an investment” and “no longer viewed just as charity”.
“I think the idea of giving up on the NDIS is just flat earth,” he said.
