NDIS participant and workers blow whistle on alleged overcharge
On the face of it, Katrina Chivell is the perfect disability support coordinator.
The CEO of Ark Allied Care says she has helped dozens of clients in Melbourne, regional Victoria and New South Wales.
“I want to be able to assist everybody.”
According to a Facebook post, she organised a free family fun day at an animal farm for National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) participants in 2022 to help connect those who felt isolated due to COVID lockdowns.
For her work Christmas party, she hired hot-pink stretch hummers and took staff on a night out, giving them pamper packs and bonuses to let them know they were appreciated.
She’s repeatedly lobbied publicly to get more NDIS funding for her clients and appeared on commercial TV news saying it was a “daily fight” to get them the support they needed.
But documents obtained by the ABC appear to show Ms Chivell’s company charged the NDIS hundreds of thousands of dollars for services that were not being provided.
Ms Chivell was also an NDIS participant for her own disability, and it’s alleged these services were overbilled as well.
